About 2 years ago I had very limited knowledge about computers and the world of digital technology. I have now created my own website. How did I end up here?
Hello and welcome. I'm Anton, I am 59 years old and for over 30 years have been self employed in the building construction and maintenance industry , 18 of them as the Managing Director of a Pty Ltd company. Prior to that, as a young man, I worked as an artist, designer and photographer which has always been my passion. You can see some of my art works at my old site antonarets.com so at the very least, you know I am real. Having a creative mind was certainly advantageous with much of my work, and it also gave me some escape... when and if time allowed for it. Additionally, I tried many other different and interesting ways over the years to earn a living as the need presented itself.
Admittedly, I have made a great income working with my hands, but that is what you expect dedicating 100 to 120 hours per week to pay the bills and put food on the table. I was forced to reassess my life when I suffered a heart attack at age 40 due to high stress levels and lack of sleep. So I reduced my workload, changed the nature of my work while at the same time searched the internet for alternative ways to earn income.
There certainly is an abundance of online opportunities available for those with technical knowledge, qualifications and experience, but what could an 'old school' tradesman with very limited computer knowledge and absolutely no digital skills do?
